Tree Pruning

It may be necessary to prune a tree for safety, or to maintain its health. Whatever the reason, our tree surgeons will ensure that the pruning is accomplished in a safe and appropriate manner.

Types of Pruning

There are a few major types of pruning you may require:
Crown Thinning - for the removal of smaller branches around the outside of the crown.
Crown Lifing (Raising) - to remove the lower branches of a crown. This will normally not include large branches growing directly from the tree trunk, as it can be unhealthy for the tree.
Crown Reduction - pruning of whole areas of the crown, typically a reduction of the overall height and spread.

What For?

Pruning is commonly undertaken to remove dead branches, either to reduce risk or to improve a tree's form.
A tree may be blocking light to the ground below itself, and in some cases low branches may hinder accessibility of routes below. Trees may be pruned to increase light levels and air flow to the inside of the tree's crown, or to the landscape below.

Situation Assessment

If your tree needs pruning, then we will make all the necessary checks beforehand. Our checks include but are not limited to:

  • Risk Assessments
  • Conservation Areas
  • Tree Preservation Orders

It is essential that trees are pruned correctly, otherwise regrowth can occur in an undesirable and unplanned manner.
